Guests interested in combining their ranch stay with a whitewater rafting trip on Idahos Main Salmon River have a variety of options. Private permit holders will enjoy being able to derig on our beach and leave the canyon showered, rested and refreshed for the trip home after a night in our accomodations. Several commercial rafting companies offer a night at Shepp Ranch as part of their regular itinerary. You will luxuriate in your first shower in a few days and get served a wonderful dinner on a padded chair while retelling stories of the weeks adventure and saying good bye to all your new river friends. We will work with any of the rafting companies to work out the logistics of staying at Shepp Ranch at the end of your trip. Whether you are interested in camping each night or staying at a different lodge each night a Main Salmon River trip is a great way to see the whole canyon. The Main Salmon is a very family friendly river, lots of sand beaches for camping and fun rapids during the day. Scattered along the way are historic homesteads and old mines in addition to pictographs from even earlier settlers. Please see our links page for some of the recommended outfitters, each brings a little different interpretation to the experience. Specialty trips such as geology, history, wine tasting, magicians and storytellers are popular.
If you are a lucky winner of a private permit through the Salmon Challis National Forest Main Salmon River permit lottery then we are happy to offer you the hospitality of our lodge and cabins during your trip. Shepp Ranch generally fits in the 4th or 5th night of your itinerary. You have three options for ending your trip here or you can finish your float out to the boat ramp at Carrey Ck 18 miles below the ranch. You can jetback up to Corn Ck, a service provided by other outfitters, fly out of the ranch (airstrip use restricted to overnight guests of the ranch) to Salmon, McCall or Boise, or we can provide jetboat transportation of you and your gear to Vinegar Ck boat landing.
It is a great way to end your trip! 2009 overnight lodging rate that includes breakfast and dinner is $150/person. This rate does not include transportation or guided activities. Non guided activities, such as stream fishing and hiking, and full use of the facilities amenities are included.
