Guest Ranch in Idaho on the Banks of the Main Salmon River

Shepp Ranch on the banks of the Main Salmon River Idaho Shepp Ranch, a guest ranch in Idaho, is located in the Gospel Hump Wilderness of mountainous central Idaho, on the banks of the Salmon River, the fabled “River of No Return.” With the nearest road 15 miles away, this area is truly remote, making our location perfect for wilderness adventures with family and friends.

Whatever your interest, Shepp Ranch is ideal for your next outdoor adventure. Not only will you be inspired by the natural surroundings, you will be expertly cared for by long-time managers Mike and Lynn Demerse. We invite you to join us at Shepp Ranch for a few days, or maybe more. Bring your sense of adventure, and leave your worries behind. Come relax and enjoy our western hospitality. Our Idaho Guest Ranch 2008 business was phenomenal this summer. Not only in number of guests taken but in the fun and diversified groups that have come through.  Several Main Salmon River rafting outfitters have lodged their groups here and we have had numerous families spend their summer vacation here.  The Gilton family has even created their own website of their pictures.

Downriver

Location: Shepp Ranch is located on the banks of the Salmon River at its confluence with Crooked Creek. The property is surrounded by the Gospel Hump Wilderness on three sides, and the Wild and Scenic Salmon River Corridor on the fourth. Across the river is the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The nearest accessible town is Riggins, Idaho, approximately 40 miles downstream.

Transportation: Access to Shepp Ranch, a Gospel Hump Wilderness Lodge, is provided by our jet boats or by light aircraft. Most guests choose to make the spectacular drive to road’s end at Vinegar Bar. From there we pick you up for the 30 minute jet boat trip into the ranch. The dramatic scenery of the Salmon River Canyon and the likely chance of spotting wildlife, such as elk, deer and bighorn sheep, make the trip upriver a vacation highlight. If time is critical, we will happily arrange a charter flight from Boise. (local attractions) Either way, both options are exciting and provide unique experiences. At Shepp Ranch, part of the vacation fun is getting here.

Accommodations: Shepp Ranch offers an Idaho family adventure vacation situated close to the Salmon River and Crooked Creek. Our rooms have private baths, and wood-burning stoves and fireplaces. We can comfortably lodge 12-16 guests with exclusive use of the ranch for groups of 12 or more. Special arrangements can be made for larger groups.

Meals: Shepp Ranch serves family-style meals at our two large dining tables. Prime meats, ranch-grown vegetables, fruits, homemade breads and desserts are sure to please. If you have special dietary needs, just let us know when you make your reservation.
